Prolonged sitting has become one of the hallmarks of modern life: Working in front of a computer, long commutes, screen time at home — and overall many hours a day in which the body barely moves. Various studies link a sedentary lifestyle to increased back pain, reduced physical fitness, and a higher risk of chronic diseases.
Against this background, a portable ergonomic seat called TO GO was developed in Israel by the company Painless Stretch, with the goal of introducing light movement into sitting itself. The seat is placed on a regular chair and allows gentle forward-and-back movement באמצעות rails and rollers – so that the user activates the core muscles, pelvis, and lower back even without standing up.
According to the company, the idea is not “exercise” in the classical sense, but rather encouraging minimal movement, improving blood flow, and reducing static load on the back and pelvis. The seat is non-electric, lightweight, and portable, and is suitable for use at home, in the office, and even during long trips.
Ergonomics experts note that the very transition from static sitting to dynamic sitting may reduce point loads and improve comfort, but emphasize that this is an addition – not a substitute for movement breaks, standing up, walking, and regular physical activity.
The TO GO seat offers an interesting intermediate solution for people who sit a lot and do not manage to incorporate enough movement during the day. It does not replace an active lifestyle, but it can serve as a physical reminder that even while sitting – the body is not meant to be completely still.
