When you open the box of a new microwave, you usually don’t expect to get particularly excited. But when we took the Electrolux EMC30D22BM out of the packaging, we realized this was something different. The appliance, in a black pearl color, looks stylish and modern, and surprisingly – the size was far more convenient than we expected. Not huge and not taking up half the kitchen, but exactly what’s needed.
An all-in-one that promises everything
Electrolux recently launched a new microwave series, with its flagship product being the EMC30D22BM – a combined microwave with grill and baking, at a recommended price of NIS 1,590. Alongside the series of products sold at prices ranging from NIS 450 for the basic model, the device we received for review represents the company’s maximalist approach to the modern kitchen.
What sets this device apart is mainly the technology behind it. Instead of a regular magnetron, it uses an inverter magnetron designed for even cooking and energy efficiency. The microwave’s power output is 1,000 watts, while the grill and oven reach a significant output of 2,400 watts. The capacity is 30 liters with a huge 31 cm turntable, and the dimensions (327 x 520 x 520 mm) make it more convenient than these numbers might suggest.
A grill that really works
What truly stole the show was the grill. We tried toasting bread, and to our surprise, it worked excellently. The device comes with two grill racks – high and low – allowing control over the level of browning. But the real statement was with frozen foods: Puff pastry snacks and patties retained their crispiness in a surprising way. This is exactly where regular microwaves fail – they tend to turn everything soggy and soft.
Four CombiGrill/Convection programs automatically divide time and power between the grill and the microwave, and there is also a dedicated Roast&Bake program. The temperature range is between 40 and 230 degrees Celsius, which allows for both slow cooking and grilling and frying at high temperatures.
Fast defrosting that works
One of the functions that proved especially useful is automatic defrosting. We tried defrosting bread, and the process was relatively fast and even. The device offers defrosting by weight or by time, providing flexibility depending on what needs to be defrosted.
AirFry and a wide range of options
One of the interesting features of this device is the AirFry system. Nine automatic programs are designed for almost oil-free frying at a temperature of 230 degrees – fries, vegetables and additional foods. The device comes with a special AirFry tray for this purpose.
Overall, there are 23 automatic programs for a variety of foods: Pizza, pasta, yogurts, drying fruits and vegetables, beverages, rice, potatoes, vegetables, chicken, fish and more. There are also five different heating levels, a fast preheating function, and a Deodorization program for neutralizing odors – something that is truly necessary in such a multifunctional device.
The timer allows setting cooking time between 10 seconds and 95 minutes, and there is also an option for immediate activation with a 30-second button press. The enamel cavity is easy to clean, which is especially important in a device that also serves as a grill and oven.
Design and practicality
The device, in a black pearl color, looks stylish and modern, and the menu is intuitive and easy to use. What surprised us most is that the size is much more convenient than we expected – the numbers on paper may sound intimidating, but in practice the device doesn’t take up too much space and fits even in kitchens that aren’t huge.
The device comes with a full accessory system: Two grill racks, an AirFry tray and a steaming pot, allowing flexibility in use.
Bottom line
The price of NIS 1,590 is not cheap, especially for a microwave. But if you take into account that it also replaces an Air Fryer (which costs between NIS 300–800), and can also serve as a small oven, it becomes more reasonable. The new Electrolux series also offers simpler models starting at NIS 450, but this flagship product provides significant added value.
After our experience, the device proved itself especially in grilling – the ability to maintain the crispiness of frozen foods and the high-quality toasting of bread are things that regular microwaves simply cannot do. The attractive design, convenient size and diverse functions – all of these make it a device worth paying attention to for anyone looking for a multifunctional solution in the kitchen.
