The man charged with firebombing a Melbourne synagogue on Friday night is allegedly Iranian.

Angelo Loras, 34, attempted to set fire to a centuries-old historic synagogue in East Melbourne. Twenty people were inside the East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation synagogue but did not suffer injuries as a result of the incident, according to Victoria Police.

The biography of Loras' X/Twitter account says he is "Single, Iranian, forklift driver, music lover, only one type."

On Sunday, Israel's Diaspora Affairs Ministry released a dossier about the incident, in which it refers to Loras as "an Iranian citizen."

However, social media users queried the possibility of Loras' social media presence being a bot of some type, given his lack of posts, small list of followers, and relatively recent sign-up date.
