Summary of Events Over the Last Week:
As Jews around the world gathered this week to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, the annual United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York turned into an antisemitic hate fest.
Several world leaders used the UN stage to vilify Israel, trivialize the Holocaust, and mock the Jewish people. Among them were Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who declared, "There is no people chosen by God," and Chilean President Gabriel Boric, who directly compared the war in Gaza to the Nazi genocide of the Jews.
CAM CEO Sacha Roytman blasted the UN Security Council for scheduling a major meeting on Gaza on Rosh Hashanah, saying this was "not an oversight" but rather "a blatant act of exclusion."
"It tells Jews worldwide that their faith, their holy days, and even their very presence are irrelevant," he noted.
Meanwhile, outside the UN building, anti-Israel demonstrators chanted for "intifada" and waved the flags of terrorist groups.
Violence, Threats, and Discrimination
Other incidents of antisemitic violence, threats, and discrimination monitored by the Antisemitism Research Center (ARC) by CAM this week included:
- United States: Authorities charged two Syracuse University students with hate crimes after one of the suspects barged into a Jewish fraternity house carrying a bag filled with pork and slammed it against a wall.
- Germany: A restaurant in Fürth displayed a poster reading "Israeli citizens are not welcome in this establishment."
- Switzerland: A kosher hotel in Davos received a letter filled with antisemitic insults and death threats.
CAM wishes a meaningful Yom Kippur to all who observe. G’mar Chatima Tova!
