Border officials in Cyprus arrested a man suspected of being a member of Hamas and illegally transporting ammunition at Larnaca Airport after travelling from Lebanon to Cyprus on Friday, Germany’s Federal Prosecutors' Office stated.

The man, identified by the office as Lebanese-born Kamel M., was suspected of transporting 300 rounds of live ammunition to other individuals also suspected of being Hamas members for the purpose of preparing for “Hamas assassination attacks on Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany and Europe.”

Kamel M. will be extradited to Germany and brought before a judge for further legal action, the Federal Prosecutors' Office stated.

Kamel M.’s arrest followed the arrests of two other men, to whom he is suspected of transferring the ammunition.

Multiple Hamas members arrested in Germany

On January 23, German authorities arrested a man identified as Lebanese-born Mohammad S., after he arrived in Berlin from Lebanon, for procuring the 300 rounds of ammunition originally supplied by Kamel M. to an additional suspect.

According to the Federal Prosecutors' Office, Kamel M. gave the ammunition to a German national identified as Abed Al G., who then transferred it to Mohammad S.

Abed Al G. was arrested in October of 2025 and charged with membership in Hamas and the “preparation of a serious act of violence endangering the state.”

Two additional men, Lebanese-born Wael FM and German national Ahmad I., were arrested with Abed Al G. and charged with the same crimes by German law enforcement.

The three men were accused of procuring firearms and ammunition for Hamas members in Germany, which they had been doing since the summer of 2025, according to the office.

During the October arrest, German authorities uncovered numerous weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle, several pistols, and a significant quantity of ammunition.

The weapons and ammunition were also suspected to be intended for Hamas to use in attacks against Jewish and Israeli institutions in Germany.
