An Israeli woman in her 70s was killed in a car accident in New Zealand, the ZAKA International Unit announced on Monday.

The woman, an American-Israeli resident of Jerusalem, was in New Zealand with her husband for a family event. The accident occurred near the town of Winton in southern New Zealand, approximately 1,100 kilometers from Auckland, Zaka said.

ZAKA’s International Unit said it is in contact with the family and is working with local authorities and diplomatic officials to arrange for the return of the body to Israel for burial.

According to the statement, ZAKA’s International Department and the head of the Chevra Kadisha in Auckland are working with the assistance of the Foreign Ministry and Consul Mia Simon to complete the procedures required to return the body to Israel.

Efforts are being made to expedite the release of the body for transport and burial.

This is a developing story.
