The international medical innovation arena recorded an impressive Israeli achievement this week: MedCu Technologies, a company engaged in developing advanced copper-based dressings, won the international innovation award as part of the Medtech Strategist Innovation Summit—one of the most important events in the field of medical devices, held this year in San Diego.

The win came after an especially competitive process that lasted months, during which senior experts evaluated the companies participating in the global accelerator program of MedTech Innovator, a competition that includes thousands of applicants from around the world each year. This year, about 1,500 companies participated, and only a handful reached the final stage.

What tipped the scales in favor of MedCu is its unique development: Copper dressings intended for treating hard-to-heal wounds, such as diabetic wounds, pressure ulcers, venous wounds, and burns.

The importance of copper in the dressing

The dressings are based on technology that incorporates high concentrations of copper particles, creating an active antimicrobial environment—meaning one that prevents bacterial growth and contributes to reducing infections. In addition, the copper supports the tissue regeneration process and enables more effective and faster healing compared to traditional methods.

The professional committee noted that this is a solution that successfully combines applied science, material innovation, and a response to a significant medical need—especially against the backdrop of rising diabetes rates and the large number of chronic wounds that place a burden on healthcare systems.

MedCu CEO Danny Lustiger responded to the win, saying that “this international recognition is proof of the ability of the Israeli health industry to provide real solutions to global medical challenges. It is a great honor for us, especially in a challenging period, to present technology capable of improving the quality of life for many patients around the world.”

The award received by MedCu is not only a certificate of recognition, but also an opening for collaborations with hospitals, research bodies, and international health corporations. Alongside this, the company continues to develop the next generation of copper-based dressings, with the goal of expanding therapeutic uses and improving clinical outcomes.
