Annan goes to Beijing to talk with Chinese leaders

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is in Beijing for talks with Chinese leaders on North Korea's nuclear program and on mending strained ties among Japan, South Korea and China. Annan, on an Asian tour, has urged Tokyo, Seoul and Beijing to repair relations damaged by various disputes. The UN leader, who was in Beijing on Saturday, was also expected to discuss with President Hu Jintao and other leaders the standoff over Iran's nuclear aspirations. China has rejected sanctions to pressure Tehran to give up its nuclear program, calling for more diplomacy. In a meeting with Hu, Annan thanked China for its "strong belief in multilateralism as the only means of solving problems in this interdependent world."
