China says Ban Ki-moon arrives to visit area hit by quake

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived Saturday in southwestern China to visit quake-hit areas, a government news agency reported. Ban's visit was meant to "express his care for those who suffered" in the May 12 quake, which killed at least 55,000 people, Xinhua News Agency said. Ban flew to Chengdu, capital of quake-hit Sichuan province, and was due to travel later Saturday to areas closer to the quake's epicenter.
