The European Union and others criticized Zimbabwe's government at the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday for its violent suppression of demonstrators and political activists opposing the rule of President Robert Mugabe.
"Such actions have no place in any society," said Ambassador Michael Steiner of Germany, speaking on behalf of the 27-nation EU and over 20 other countries that aligned themselves with the statement.
