Germany pursues report that German citizen abducted in Afghanistan

Germany's Foreign Ministry is investigating a report that a German citizen has been abducted in Afghanistan, an official said Monday. The head of the Troisdorf, Germany-based Green Helmets said his aid organization had received a report that one of its former workers in the western city of Herat had been abducted. "I cannot confirm anything," said Rupert Neudeck in a telephone interview. "The authorities cannot say anything because they are concerned for his safety. But usually there is something to such reports." A spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry in Berlin said the ministry was aware of the report and was checking it.
