Slovak parliament has approved a government plan to send more soldiers to join the NATO-led peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.
The vote was unanimous on Thursday to increase the number of Slovak troops in Afghanistan to as many as 246 by next year. They would mostly be deployed in Afghanistan's Uruzgan and Kandahar provinces.
Of the 126 lawmakers present in the 150-seat parliament, seven abstained from the vote.
Slovak military spokesman Milan Vanga says Slovakia currently has 70 service members with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan.
Parliament had previously approved raising that number to 111 later this year.
