White supremacist gang gaining influence in US

A white supremacist gang that began as a group of upper-middle class, teenage punk rock fans now is gaining influence across the US West after forging an alliance with the notorious Aryan Brotherhood, authorities say. A recent "hit list" targeting five police officers and a gang prosecutor are a sign of just how brazen Public Enemy No. 1 has become, police said. Public Enemy No. 1 began two decades ago in Southern California. Now the violent gang deals in drugs, guns and identity theft - and its increasing power comes from shifts in the power structure inside prisons. The Aryan Brotherhood has long been the dominant white supremacist gang in prison, with the Nazi Low Riders acting as its foot soldiers on the outside for drug dealing and identity theft.
