Nespresso and Harey Galil Winery have launched their first wine made with compost enriched with used coffee from discarded Nespresso coffee capsules. The lovely Sauvignon Blanc 2018 from Misgav’s vineyard was launched in a festive dinner held at Tel Aviv’s Nithan Thai restaurant last month.
The wine will accompany a special tasting menu which is served in Nithan Thai and includes nine different dishes crated by Chef Shahaf Shabtai. The restaurant promises to separate the waste and use it for compost as well. (NIS 400 for two including nine dishes, two glasses of wine, one dessert and two cups of coffee).
The coffee grind, which is extracted from used capsules, completes the recycling of the Nespresso capsules. The aluminum is reused, and the coffee makes for an excellent compost. The coffee enriches the Earth with minerals necessary for growing grapes.

The dry wine has a light yellow-green color, typical aromas of tropical fruit, noticeable mineral flavors and well-balanced acidity. Lovely and fresh. NIS 60
