The High Court of Justice on Sunday permitted the publication of the name of a Border Police officer, Hananel Sabag, who is charged with reckless homicide for fatally shooting his friend, IDF soldier Yosef Chaim Rabuch, outside his home in Kiryat Arba, in October 2025.
According to the indictment filed by the Police Internal Investigations Department, Sabag faces charges of reckless homicide, as well as additional offenses that include negligence involving a firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Following the court's rejection of Sabag's appeal on Sunday, his name was cleared for publication specifically in connection with the charges.
Fatal shooting was a tragedy between friends
According to Hebrew media reports from the time of the incident, Sabag and Rabuch were close friends planning to go out together that day.
Before leaving the house, Sabag allegedly tried to demonstrate something with his gun, resulting in an accidental discharge that hit Rabuch, causing a fatal injury.
Rabuch was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
