The 2015 Aviv (Spring) Competition for young classical musicians will take place, under the auspices of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, between December 25 and January 6. This is the 17th edition of the competition, and this year’s contest will focus on three categories of musicians – players of cello, vocalists and woodwind players.The Aviv Competition is designed to identify promising young musicians, aged 21 to 30, and to provide them with a springboard for a professional career, as well as awarding prizes in the relevant categories.This year’s contestants will include five cellists, 12 singers and seven woodwind players.Past winners include now internationally renowned artists, such as cellist Zvi Plesser, who also curates the annual Voice of Music Festival in Kfar Blum, Grammy Award nominated mandolin player Avi Avital and pianist Boris Giltburg.The Aviv Competitions are run by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation, and cosponsored by the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Music Department of the Culture Administration of the Ministry of Culture and Sport, and the Jerusalem Music Center.The various stages of the competition are held at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and are free and open to the general public.For more information visit www.aicf.co.il/eng/The_Aviv_Competitions_ 2015
