Israel is at a "significant crossroads" in its war, which will affect how the campaign continues, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir said during a visit to the ground forces headquarters on Wednesday.
"There has never been a war like this in the history of the IDF – we are operating in Tehran, Sana’a, Beirut, Syria, Jenin, and the main focus, the Gaza Strip. At times, we are operating simultaneously in several theaters," he said.
He noted that the military will work to enhance its robotic capabilities, which will then be integrated into combat teams, remote operations, and other areas.
During his visit, Zamir toured the main building and held a comprehensive briefing with ground force commander Maj.-Gen. Nadav Lotan.
"We cannot operate without [the ground forces], and the ground combat capability is a decisive strategic capability against our enemies in the first circle (nearby threats). In the next multi-year plan, the ground forces components will be at the center. We will expand and enhance ground capabilities, strengthen maneuverability and lethality at the battalion and brigade combat teams," Zamir said.
The IDF's most important resource is its soldiers
Zamir emphasized that at the end of the day, "People are our most important asset," and that he has been consistently impressed by the IDF's soldiers and commanders.
"We are investing considerable efforts in training the commanders and making sure, even during the war, that they are fully and professionally trained. My directive is to minimize any impact on training," he said.
"Today, a reserve officer course ends, a course that began during the war and proves once again that the strength and action of the IDF lies in high-quality officers and strong reserve units. These are units with a strong, professional, and values-driven command structure. We will continue to develop the training and certification processes for commanders in line with the current era."
