A-G discards claim that judge met with Ramon aide

Attorney-General Menahem Mazuz has decided not to investigate claims that justice Hayuta Kochan, deputy president of the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court, consulted with a source close to former justice minister Haim Ramon before pronouncing him guilty of committing an indecent act, Israel Radio reported Sunday. According to the anonymous claim received two months ago, the consultations led to the decision that there was nothing disgraceful about Ramon's actions - namely, kissing a female soldier who worked in the Prime Minister's Office - despite the harsh court ruling. Mazuz said the complaint did not bear investigating, due to its content, timing and anonymity. According to sources in the justice establishment, Kochan denied conferring with any sources close to Ramon, who was sentenced to eight months of community service earlier this year.
