MK a-Sanaa barred from entering Gaza to purportedly discuss cease-fire.

During a meeting with MK Taleb a-Sanaa, Chairman of the United Arab List, PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas said that the Kassam rocket fire was in Israel's interests because it prevented the peace process from progressing.
Earlier Wednesday, A-Sanaa complained that the security establishment was preventing him from entering the Gaza Strip to calm the atmosphere in the area.
He said that the situation could only be calmed by a mediator who knew both sides well and who would intervene and return sanity to the region, Israel Radio reported.
The UAL MK said that after speaking with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and other PA officials, he believed that they would be willing to enter into a cease fire that would end what a-Sanaa suggested was a series of reactions and counter-reactions.
He stated that both sides of the conflict had contributed to the current violent escalation, asserting that killing and counter-killing were not leading anywhere.
Still, he accused Israel of ending periods of calm with arrests and targeted killings. In the last year, he claimed, "there was a period when the Kassam rockets stopped altogether. Did Israel stop the arrests, the targeted killings? No."
He insisted that Israel must give a cease fire a chance.
A-Sanaa asked Defense Minister Amir Peretz to allow him to meet with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and other PA officials, so that he may get the Palestinians to stop launching rockets at Israel.
The Ministry of Defense said the request was being considered. A-Sanaa told Israel Radio that he was told his request was rejected out of fear for his safety.
