Accountant-General Zelekha received death threats

Police were setting up a significant watch around the home of Accountant-General Yaron Zelekha after the embattled finance official received death threats on Sunday, Army Radio reported Monday. "If Yaron Zelekha does not leave Jerusalem, we will harm him and his family," an anonymous person told Zelekha's wife on the phone. According to the report, this was not the first time the accountant-general had been threatened. "It's no secret I'm going through hard times," Zelekha said recently, "through slander and personal attacks, and it's ending with ongoing threats. I am not deterred, and I'm not hiding. This is not a secret." Zelekha has come under fire from the Finance Ministry in recent months. Last month, Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson stripped Zelekha of authority for the issue of credit to local authorities from Bank Otsar Hashilton Hamekomi, after the accountant-general refused an order to provide credit for 20 debt-ridden local authorities.
