Blair, Gallo to receive $1 million Dan David Prize

Mideast mediator Tony Blair and scientist Robert Gallo will receive $1 million Dan David Prizes this year.
The Dan David Foundation gives three prizes every year, in past, present and future categories.
The foundation announced Monday that former British Prime Minister Blair will receive an award in the "present" category "for his exceptional leadership and steadfast determination in helping to engineer agreements and forge lasting solutions to areas in conflict." Blair is the representative of the Quartet of Mideast peacemakers - the US, EU, UN and Russia.
Gallo is credited with co-discovery of the AIDS virus. His award is in the "future" category.
Three scientists will share the "past" award for work on the origin of the universe.
