Managers for the Community, an organization that helps managers of large companies connect with community projects, put out a call Wednesday to the business world to support them in their effort to provide Pessah food baskets for needy families. According to Dror Cohen, the brainchild behind the organization, Managers for the Community works together with the Hessed Center in Rishon Lezion to provide food for the holidays to needy families in the area. "We raise between NIS 50,000-60,000 to provide 130 families with food for the holiday," said Cohen, director of the Israel Marketing Center, a marketing consultancy firm that has connections with some of the largest companies in the country. "I noticed that many of the companies I worked with wanted to donate to charities but did not know where, how or who to trust." Cohen said he started working with the Hessed Center in Rishon Lezion three years ago and through their established networks helped distribute food baskets twice a year, at Pessah and Rosh Hashana. The recipients of the food baskets are selected by area social workers. Each basket to be distributed is worth NIS 400 and includes such basic supplies as matza, meat, wine, vegetables, fruit, cake, sugar, rice, soft drinks and more. Many of those donating will also help to distribute the food, said Cohen. Cohen would not disclose which companies were involved in the initiative, as he had to honor an anonymity request from the companies. He said only that "we are talking about some of the biggest companies in Israel."
