The man's family have been informed of his death.
According to German media reports the man was part of a team of fouteen canoes carrying a total of twenty nine people, including both Germans and Israelis, that set out last Tuesday.
At a specific point the man's canoe overturned and he became trapped underneath in a whirlpool of water.
The man was taken to hospital in Hamburg for medical treatment but doctors were forced to pronounce his death after unsuccessfully trying to save him.
