Hamas: Schalit talks to resume next month

Hamas said Saturday that indirect third party talks with Israel for the release of captive soldier Gilad Schalit would resume next month, according to Channel 2. The Prime Minister's office had no comment on the report. Hopes had been high last month that former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert would strike a Schalit deal before he left office. But the negotiations failed at the last moment and the talks were halted as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu took office. Hamas told Channel 2 that talks would resume where they left off once Netanyahu's office had finalized the negotiating team. Schalit has been held by Hamas in Gaza since he was kidnapped in June 2006, almost three years ago.
