The Likud faction held its first meeting Monday afternoon since Prime Minister Ariel Sharon quit the party.
Likud Central Committee Chairman Tzahi Hanegbi was appointed to temporarily fill Sharon's place.
"We received former party chairman Sharon's letter," Likud faction chairman Gideon Sa'ar announced at the opening of the meeting.
Hanegbi said that he planned to schedule the chairmanship vote by the end of the week. "The events demands the quick selection of a new permanent chairman for the party," Hanegbi said.
It was assessed that the vote would be held in late December of this year.
