An Israeli holidaymaker in Sinai was assaulted by a Libyan national armed with a knife on Monday, in what Eilat police have described as a criminally-motivate attack.
The 41-year-old man, of Tel Aviv, suffered stab wounds to his face and neck after the attacker, reportedly an employee of the holiday resort, entered the man's hut, where he was sleeping with his family, and attempted to rob him.
The robber was surprised when the Israeli awoke, and assaulted him with the knife before escaping.
The family were staying at a resort on the Bir-Sawar beach, which is located south of Taba, in eastern Sinai.
"He entered Israel via the Taba border crossing with light injuries. From the information we have at the moment, this was a criminal incident," Israel Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told the Jerusalem Post.
The man received stitches at Eilat's Joseftal hospital and was released shortly afterwards.
The attack comes amid terror alerts in the Sinai and warnings to Israelis to stay out of the peninsula.
