The Knesset Tuesday approved a first reading of the "polluter pays" law. According to the proposed legislation, any individual or company caught polluting would receive a fine four times as high as the profit gained by the pollution.
MK Dov Henin, the law's proponent, said that the legislation would prevent polluters from making huge profits. "Israel too needs to put an end to the intolerable situation whereas it is worthwhile to pollute and jeopardize citizens' health," he said.
