Knesset passes negative income tax bill

Workers earning less than NIS 5,000 gross per month will pay negative income tax, according to a bill that the Knesset passed through a preliminary reading Wednesday. Although the government is opposed to the bill, which was initiated by MK Silvan Shalom (Likud), 58 MKs voted in favor of it. Negative income tax is a type of benefit intended for low-income workers. People who are employed cannot benefit from it.
