Lieberman says he will oppose assisting Fatah

Minister of Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman said that he intends to oppose the proposed transfer of funds and arms to Fatah, Israel Radio reported. Lieberman was responding to earlier reports that the Israeli defense establishment was preparing guidelines ahead of the meeting projected to take place in Sharm el Sheikh next week between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. The recommendations included improving Fatah's arsenal, stepping up moves to release frozen Palestinian tax funds, and other actions that would ease Fatah's financial position and perhaps bolster it against rival Hamas.
