Livni: Clinton is a 'good friend of Israel'

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is "a good friend of Israel," Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Tuesday. Speaking at a joint press conference in Jerusalem, Livni said that Clinton had "shown a deep understanding of the needs of Israel," as well as "an understanding of the nature of the threats that we have here in the region." She commented that the US-Israel relationship was "based on shared values and an understanding of the common interests, the threats, and the ways to confront and meet these challenges together." Noting the new administration in the US and the current forming of a government in Israel, Livni said that ties between the two countries "transcend parties and governments."
