Yaron Bracha, who was charged with manslaughter on Tuesday for the deaths of six people in last week's car crash near Lod, denied on Wednesday morning that he had driven the car that caused the accident, Army Radio reported.
Bracha - whose twin brother, Eyal, was killed in last Wednesday's accident at the Ginaton junction along with the five passengers in the other car - told Channel 2 on Tuesday evening that "my life is over, I have no reason to live."
In an exclusive interview at Assaf Harofeh Hospital, where he underwent surgery for injuries sustained in the collision, Bracha - who reportedly remembers nothing from the accident - showed reporters a snapshot of himself with his brother.
"I'm half a person," he said. "For 28 years we've done everything together. We rented an apartment together, we went traveling together."
"I didn't kill [Eyal]," Bracha insisted. "I didn't kill my brother. I didn't kill five other people. I didn't do it. If I did, it's a shame I wasn't killed [and not them]. Why didn't God take me?"
Bracha, who looked straight into the camera and asked the families of the five other victims for forgiveness, told interviewers that he needed people to support him, not attack him.
Bracha was indicted Tuesday on six counts of manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs, police said Tuesday.
According to the indictment, he had been driving drunk and had taken drugs, including marijuana and cocaine, prior to the crash.
According to a Channel 1 report, Bracha's parents were upset that their remaining son had been indicted before the family had finished sitting shiva for Eyal.
