Move comes after Judge Advocate General reprimanded him for rent violations.

Maj.-Gen. Yiftah Ron-Tal, former OC Ground Forces Services, announced his retirement from the army on Friday. The retirement will go into effect sometime this month.
Last May, Judge Advocate General Brig.-Gen. Avihai Mandelblit harshly criticized Ron-Tal for behavior unbecoming a senior officer and advised that regulatory measures be taken against him, after investigating allegations that he received NIS 10,000 towards rental expenses, even though he was not entitled to the money, thereby violating regulations.
Mandelblit's recommendations, the result of a probe conducted to investigate the charges, were presented to then-chief of general staff Lt.-Gen (Res.) Moshe Ya'alon, days before Halutz took office.
At the time, Ron-Tal denied the allegations, and declared that he would fight to clear his name. He asserted that he never took an agora against orders.
Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Dan Halutz upheld the general's decision on Friday, saying that he supported the findings presented by Mandelblit, and did not feel the need to comment further.
The probe was launched after a former senior officer in the manpower division, Lt.-Col. Dalia Kotai, submitted a complaint concerning corruption within the division and revealed to the Military Police numerous allegations of wrongdoing and mismanagement in the division.
Mandelblit cleared OC Ground Forces Maj.-Gen. Benny Gantz of all wrongdoing after investigating allegations that he also received payments for rental accommodations in violation of regulations.
