Olmert: 'I know Palestinian leadership is weak'

"The Palestinian leadership is weak in many respects. It does not have the means to practice its authority over Judea and Samaria and certainly not over Gaza," Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Wednesday evening in a meeting with approximately 100 young Kadima activists in his Jerusalem residence. Nevertheless, Olmert added this is "the first time there is a Palestinian government that publicly states: We are not against Israel, we're committed to fighting terror and we want peace." Referring to the upcoming peace conference at Annapolis, the prime minister said "I am not a naïve person." "I did not fool anyone into thinking that I am going to Annapolis and magically, we will sign an agreement. I hear experts saying that failure in Annapolis will be bad, but what will happen if we sit and do nothing?" he added.
