Sderot bomb shelters not in good condition

Town under threat lags behind TA, Kiryat Ono.

It might be under constant threat of rocket attacks, but Sderot’s bomb shelters are not in the best condition, according to a survey of the country’s bomb shelters taken by the IDF Home Front Command and the Council for a Beautiful Israel.
Among the large cities, Tel Aviv came in first place for the upkeep and cleanliness of its bomb shelters, garnering five stars – the highest grade.
Jerusalem was far behind, with a mere two stars.
Among small towns, Kiryat Ono came in first place, while Sderot lagged behind with just three stars.
According to the survey, 77 percent of public bomb shelters were found to be in fair condition.
Shelters in the North were found to be in the best condition – likely due to experience, since they were used most recently during the Second Lebanon War in 2006.
The results of the survey will be presented to mayors and local council chiefs so they can make corrections and improve the conditions of their bomb shelters.
“This competition will have a direct and immediate impact on the level of security provided for each and every citizen in Israel,” said Weizman Mashiah, head of the Council for a Beautiful Israel.
“I am confident that the heads of the local councils and municipalities will take the findings and make the necessary corrections and improvements as soon as possible.”
