The family of Yoni Alzam, the prisoner at Ashmoret Prison who died Tuesday morning, petitioned the High Court of Justice on Wednesday to forbid an autopsy on his body.
Alzam, 22, was expected to testify as a protected state witness in the murder case brought against Shimon Zirhan, when he mysteriously died hours before the planned testimony. He was kept in isolation from the other prisoners at the time of his death in order to protect him.
The police demanded his body be autopsied to determine the cause of death. The leading supposition on Wednesday suggests Alzam was poisoned, but the possibility of suicide was also meant to be investigated.
