Train hits fuel-filled van; none hurt

Police allay fears that vehicle left on tracks to perpetrate terror attack.

A passenger train traveling from Dimona to Beersheba crashed into a van filled with fuel canisters near Aroer junction on Wednesday morning. The van burst into flames but no one was injured. Fuel was strewn around the area and firefighters managed to extinguish the flames. Trains were halted in both directions. Police suspected that the van got stuck when it tried to cross the train track in order to reach a nearby Beduin village. The van's owner seemingly abandoned the vehicle to call for assistance and he was not at the scene at the time of the crash. Police emphasized that there were no signs that the vehicle was left on the tracks intentionally in order to perpetrate a terror attack.
