Train schedules disrupted by workers' strike

Israel Railways workers' committee declared a surprise strike Monday morning, disrupting train schedules across the country. Trains were brought to a standstill in the middle of the journey and passengers were told to get off. Commuters told Army Radio they had to walk on the tracks to the nearest train and bus stations. The workers declared they are protesting the managing directorate's decision to fire employees and implement structural changes. Although Army Radio reported the committee had come to an agreement with the management, an official statement is yet to be released and disruptions to train schedules are still expected within the next few hours.
