The North American United Jewish Communities announced Wednesday that the organization was making an emergency allocation of NIS 11 million to the residents of Sderot and nearby communities.
The donation follows days of heightened rocket attacks, some of which have been fatal.
The UJC said the money would go to helping the elderly and disabled; funding after school programs for students; providing "fun days" for children and teenagers; and facilitating grants to those who attend Sapir College.
"The North American Jewish community is anxious about the situation of the citizens of Sderot and the surrounding area," explained UJC-Israel Director-General Nachman Shai. He noted that this donation would be disbursed alongside UJC monies already going to residents of northern Israel who suffered from the summer's war.
