"I hope to see her again," Tali Fahima's friend, Zakariya Zubeidi, one of the leaders of Fatah's Aksa Martyrs Brigades armed wing in the Jenin refugee camp, said Wednesday, expressing hope that he would soon be able to meet with her.
Zubeidi said the decision to put Fahima on trial was "politically motivated" and was linked to her "leftist" views.
"We're looking forward to hosting here in the camp," Zubeidi said shortly after hearing that Fahima had been released from prison.
"I'm very happy for her that she's been freed and hope that the day will come when all the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails will also be released."
"She deserves all our respect because she sacrificed three years of her life for the sake of peace and dialogue between Jews and Arabs. She is a very brave woman and we salute her for working toward the establishment of a Palestinian state."
However, Zubeidi said he was doubtful whether Israel's security forces would ever permit Fahima to visit Jenin.
"The Shin Bet will follow every movement of hers," he added. "I don't believe they will allow her to come here."
