Will there be a return to the Iran deal?

"If Iran comes back into full compliance with its obligations under the JCPOA, the United States would do the same thing, and then we would use that as a platform."

In Israel, as in most countries, the overarching central and most important issue is its safety, security and survival. COVID is certainly approaching this significance by threatening in a real sense the health of far too many of its citizens. However, still the central and most important issues remain the safety, security and survival of the country itself and that of its citizens.
The single most dangerous (to put it mildly) threat to the very survival of Israel and it’s citizens was the one-sided Iran deal (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action), which gave the mullahs a clear and assured path to the development of nuclear weapons in a short period of time. This deal was the brainchild of US president Barack Obama, John Kerry and the career bureaucrats that make up the Middle East Desk at the US State Department and who, since 1950, have been and continue to be decidedly anti-Israel. Our country got nothing out of this deal except hollow “promises” that placed Israel in immediate mortal danger.
US president Donald Trump withdrew our country from the Iran deal and imposed sanctions against them, which became very effective. US President Joe Biden made campaign promises to return us to the Iran deal, and so far has failed to make any definitive statement himself on whether or not he will in fact follow through with his promise.
However, Antony Blinken, the new US secretary of state, gave us and signaled the answer in typical political double-talk: “President Biden has been very clear in saying that if Iran comes back into full compliance with its obligations under the JCPOA, the United States would do the same thing, and then we would use that as a platform, to build with our allies and partners, what we call the longer and stronger agreement and to deal with a number of other issues that are deeply problematic in the relationship with Iran,” he said at a recent briefing.
Let’s see: “If Iran comes back into full compliance with its obligations under the JCPOA...” we “would do the same thing, and then we would use that as a platform “to make a “longer and stronger agreement.”
First, Iran has nothing to come “back into full compliance” because from the very start of the executed agreement it never was in any way shape or form in compliance with any of its terms. In fact, it would not allow the agreed upon inspectors to even enter the country, continued to purchase more centrifuges and continued virtually non-stop to make the enriched uranium necessary to make atomic weapons. Second, and perhaps most insidious and egregious , is that the agreement contains a “sunset provision” providing that after a short period of “compliance” (four years I believe), Iran was free to begin its nuclear research program and development of nuclear weapons without any restraint or inspection whatsoever. That is and was pure lunacy as far as Israel, the entire Middle East, and the entire world itself, was concerned.
And yet, Blinken presumably speaking for Biden, states that the door is wide open for Iran to ultimately produce nuclear weapons as long as we “believe them” when they now will most assuredly say that they now “promise” to be in compliance with the entire agreement.
This is pure insanity. The bottom line and the proven fact is that the extreme radical mullahs (the world’s chief supporters and enablers of terrorism) will do anything, say anything and act in any way deceptively and treacherously that they can to achieve their ultimate goal of producing operational nuclear weapons. This must never happen for the sake of the future of our planet. The Obama administration (from which Blinken comes) did not let that bother them at all. The Trump administration recognized all of this and withdrew us from the deal while at the same time imposing serious sanctions upon Iran in order to make them realize that they would never be given the opportunity, much less a clear path, to develop nuclear weapons.
Since Blinken’s briefing, Biden has continued to consult with – as well as appoint – documented anti-Israel bureaucrats to key positions in his administration (Hady Amr, Robert Malley, Matt Duss, Maher Bitar, Richard Mills, Martin Indyk, John Kerry).
What Biden will ultimately do is anyone’s guess. However, we now have a clear signal and indication as to the direction he is obviously heading.
The thought of Iran, North Korea, Russia and China all possessing fully operational nuclear weapons in the not too distant future is truly frightening!
