Hod Hasharon residents are furious that the Maccabi health fund's only mother-and-baby clinic (Tipat Halav) in the city is being closed down, forcing them to travel to neighboring towns to have their babies weighed, checked and immunized, reports local.co.il. The clinic, on Rehov Habanim, is reportedly being closed because the city failed to provide funds for a proper building for it, despite having promised to do so seven years ago.
It was not clear from the report who decided to close the clinic - the Health Ministry, the Maccabi health fund, or both - but residents are blaming the municipality, saying it should have provided the funds for the clinic to stay open, and that the closure will result in great inconvenience to them. A municipal spokesman said mayor Hai Adiv was "fighting with all his strength" and was meeting with ministry and health fund officials to try to convince them to allow the clinic to continue functioning.
