A British soldier was killed Saturday in Basra, southern Iraq, the Ministry of Defense said.
The soldier, from the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, "died as a result of an indirect fire attack on Basra Palace," the ministry said in a statement. Operational security prevented the release of further details, the statement said.
The soldier's name was not released, but his family has been notified.
