Iraq: US soldier killed in Diyala province

A US soldier was killed Saturday by small-arms fire north of Baghdad, the military said. One Task Force Lightning soldier died as a result of injuries sustained during operations in Diyala province, which has been the scene of fierce fighting between US-Iraqi forces and Sunni and Shi'ite militants. The soldier's name was not released pending notification of relatives. The death raised to at least 3,502 members of the US military who have died since the Iraq war started in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
