Lebanon begins choosing judges for Hariri tribunal

Lebanon on Monday launched the process of picking judges for an international tribunal to prosecute suspects in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri amid warnings that allies of Syria may try to scuttle the controversial court.
The UN Security Council ordered the creation of the tribunal after Lebanon's deeply divided political parties were unable to approve it.
Hariri was killed in February 2005 by a massive suicide car bombing in downtown Beirut that also killed 22 other people. Many in Lebanon accuse Syria of being behind the assassination, a charge that Damascus denies.
