US soldier killed in west Baghdad combat

A US soldier died of wounds received during combat operations in western Baghdad, the military said in a statement Friday. The soldier was wounded on Thursday, the statement said, without giving details on the circumstances or location. His name was withheld pending notification of his family. With his death, at least 3,592 members of the US military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,952 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.
