Merkel, Chirac meet for informal talks
06/06/2006
German Chancellor Angela Merkel met Tuesday with French President Jacques Chirac for talks, with their countries deeply involved in efforts to persuade Iran to stop uranium enrichment. The meeting in the small town of Rheinsberg, north of Berlin, is the latest in a series of regular informal get-togethers that also have included the two countries' foreign ministers. It has no fixed agenda, but German officials have said Iran and European issues are likely to be discussed. Germany, France and Britain have long been at the forefront of diplomatic efforts to defuse concerns over Iran's nuclear intentions.
