Malaysia to send 360 peacekeepers to Lebanon

Malaysia will soon send 360 peacekeepers to Lebanon, officials said Wednesday, after the UN approved the deployment. Malaysia had previously offered to send as many as 1,000 troops to Lebanon. The deployment comes despite earlier objections by Israel to involvement by countries with which it has no diplomatic ties - including Malaysia and Indonesia. Israel later dropped objections to Indonesia's participation. An advance Indonesian team is scheduled to depart for Lebanon on Oct. 10, with the bulk of a 1,000-strong force leaving on Oct. 24, Indonesian officials have said.
