OC Navy Admiral Maj.-Gen. David Ben-Bashat, submitted his resignation to IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi on Thursday, ending a 37-year career in the military. Ashkenazi thanked Ben-Bashat for his years of service and for implementing lessons learned from a Navy inquiry into last summer's Second Lebanon War. Ben-Bashat was harshly criticized earlier this year over the Navy's failures that led to the Hizbullah missile attack on the INS Hanit on the third day of the war last summer. Four sailors were killed in the attack.
