In a fascinating meeting that took place last night in Miami with academics, Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto sketched the Jewish world view of the soul and elaborated on Jewish psychology. He referred to the famous models of the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, and claimed that Judaism presents us with a completely different view of the soul’s world.
Rabbi Pinto explained that a Jew must always remain within the framework of the Torah. What held up the Jewish people in the face of all the persecutions and exiles was the Torah and its commandments.
"We believe that every person should be connected to his tradition and his values," he said. "We say to all Jews the world over that they have to be connected to the Torah. They have to live in the Torah world."
Rabbi Pinto elucidated, "The moment a Jew leaves the Torah world, everything collapses. A Jew cannot maneuver outside the world of the Torah and Judaism. He must be within the Torah’s framework."
Rabbi Pinto added: "The lifeblood of the Jewish people is the Torah. Our worldview as Jews is that the Torah is what has protected us all these years. We are a nation that is different from all nations. Our power is not through tanks and the army, but through the holy Torah. We must preserve our values and traditions. This is the right way.”
"A Jew is not just a person who is called a Jew. What makes us Jews distinct is that we live according to all the traditional Jewish values," he said in conclusion. Watch
