AFI playoffs get under way

The first round of playoff games for American Football in Israel's 2006/07 men's contact league were played at Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem last weekend, and another 18 playoff games are scheduled for February 2-3. In the Holyland Bowl quarterfinals, defending champion Big Blue will face Stevie's Boyz Friday afternoon, while Klein Management vs Cobras, Netiv Inmates vs Karelitz and Lobos vs The Green Mile/IDT Global will be played under the lights Saturday night and in front of an expected capacity crowd. For the first time in its history, the men's contact league has six playoff tiers leading to six bowl games: the Holyland Bowl, the Terem Bowl in memory of Dr. David Applebaum, the Koby Mandell Cup, the Koolanoo.com Bowl, the FlyACake.com Bowl and the Heritage Affinity Bowl. Chanie Davis scored the only MJ touchdown of the game, and Nechama "Chums" Scholar caught the extra point. Misha'an Plumbers 51, Paige's Lakers 0 The Plumbers' Yael Freedman scored three touchdowns, Esti "Baseball" Bernstien had two and Ahuvah Odenheimer, quarterback Shana Sprung and Michal Hartman each had one. Odenheimer also scored an extra point and a two-point conversion. On defense, interceptions were made by Hartman and Rachel Shmidman. METV comes backin co-ed league METV clinched third place in the final regular season standings of the Tuesday Night Football League and avoided a wild-card game by erasing a 20-point deficit in the final eight minutes to beat the HUC Runnin' Rabbis 33-32 in week 12 of the Tuesday Night Football League. Adina "Brick" Brickman was named game MVP after returning an interception back for a touchdown to get METV within six points (32-26), and then catching a touchdown pass as time ran out to even the score at 32. Jay L. Abramoff caught the pass on the extra-point attempt for the win. In week 13, Ba'al Shen Tov (10-0) capped an undefeated regular season with an 18-13 victory over Kfar Zippori, and Pardes scored a late safety to upset the HUC Runnin' Rabbis 22-20 in the wild-card game. The semifinals for the TNFL are scheduled for February 6.
